While climbing, we encountered a large area with a buried crust bellow the surface. On the way down, I was sluffing off large amounts of snow from the crust as I was turning. We were on splitboards. When I plunged my ice axe through the crust bellow the soft snow, it seemed pretty thick. Given how easily I displaced the snow, it would worry me a bit if more of that buried hard layer was softened. Maybe if there’s more loose snow ontop of it, it could release? Hope this information is helpful.
