While approaching the Main Gully via the South Snowfields we encountered a highly variable dust on a consistent crust. The underlying structure was firm and consistent with resistant hand shears along the way. Small , isolated terrain features with convexities produced shooting cracks especially where the snow had accumulated more than 10cm. Despite the poor bonding of the F surface snow to the crust it skied well in leas featured terrain.
