Calm winds and warm temperatures made for an uncharacteristic January afternoon on Mount Washington. A low level cloud band remained below 5000 feet with clear skies above. Watching the clouds subside into the Gulfs and Ravines from above was an amazing atmospheric site. A soft accumulation of rime ice had coated the surface snow and vegetation and was being degraded by the sunshine. The frontal boundary of the incoming storm can be seen in the panoramic photograph. No new avalanches were observed.
